Music at Flagstaff Academy
The Core Knowledge Sequence requires all K-8 students participate in a general music class. In addition, each grade participates in one performance during the school year. We incorporate Core Knowledge topics and Colorado State Standards along with the National Music Standards. All students will have the opportunity to sing, play, move, listen and create. A variety of topics are to be covered at each grade level including musical elements, composers, multicultural music, and well-known major works. Recorders are played in 4th Grade, with beginning woodwind, brass, and string instruction offered as an elective beginning in 6th grade. An extra singing group for grades 3-5, Dragon Scales, meets outside of the school day, along with Una Voce Choir for grades 6-8.
