CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air & Space Forces Association to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future.

The Flagstaff Academy CyberPatriot team is composed of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Working in teams of three or four, students solve complex cybersecurity problems, competing against other area teams to see who solves the problems first.

CyberPatriot teams meet once a week after school to practice and learn specific strategies that they can apply during competition. The Flagstaff team is fortunate to have been invited to attend classes at the SVVSD Innovation Center to help hone their skills. In addition, they have hosted industry professionals to speak to the team about their experiences working in the field of cybersecurity.

There are typically four national CyberPatriot competitions held each season. In the 2022/2023 season, a Flagstaff Academy team won first place in the state of Colorado. Our school also had a team earn a perfect score in the first competition of the season, and all Flagstaff teams made it to the national semi-finals in 2022/2023.

The current coaches for the team are Mrs. Reh and Ms. Curtis. Mr. Jamie Kreider, former Flagstaff teacher and current cybersecurity analyst for Ball Aerospace, serves as a parent volunteer.
